SecondsExhibition « Soldiers and sportsmen, sporting practices in the French Armed Forces from 1914 to the present »
The Great War Musuem and ECPAD are joining forces to present a photographic exhibition devoted to the role of sport in the French army from 1914 until today.
Commando training, a combatant's course, a series of push-ups... the image of the soldier is now closely associated with the practice of sport.
But how has the teaching of sport in the armed forces evolved over more than a century?
What new practices have been developed during major contemporary conflicts, and what exercises are soldiers practising today under difficult operational conditions?
From the Great War to today's overseas operations, from gymnastics to muscle strengthening, this exhibition shows the evolution of soldiers' training still driven by the values of fraternisation, commitment and determination.
The photos in the exhibition are mainly from the ECPAD collection - only one comes from the collections of the Great War Musuem.
The exhibition will be open to the wider public free of charge.
