Success of the second joint orbital manoeuvre conducted by France and the United States

Organization : CDE / Published : December 15, 2025

France and the United States have just concluded another joint manoeuvre in orbit involving two French and US military satellites, which also constitutes the first operation conducted within the framework of the Olympic Defender MNF-OOD multinational force.

Operation Olympic Defender - OOD

This outstanding operation remains the first of its kind, as it involves a multinational coordinated satellite manoeuvre planned between the seven partner nations of MNF-OOD. It demonstrates the ability to respond and manoeuvre jointly in space and illustrates the commitment of France and the United States to making MNF-OOD operational.

This operation also proves France's ability to conduct dynamic and responsible operations to deter adversaries from acting against our space interests.

Remember, the Multinational Force-Operation Olympic Defender (MNF-OOD) is a permanent military operation started by the US in 2013 to boost operational cooperation in space. The US authorities see it as a key way to work together on space control. Its scope covers space domain awareness (SDA) and the defence of space capabilities. It was opened to the United Kingdom, Canada and Australia between 2018 and 2021. France joined the multinational force in 2024, along with Germany and New Zealand.
