For its defence needs, France equips itself with modern, high performance weapon systems. The Armaments Procurement Agency (DGA), jointly responsible with the Defence Staff (EMA) for equipping the armed forces, conducts the armament programmes whose purpose is to provide the armed forces with the weapon systems that are essential for the fulfilment of their missions.
Conducting armament programmes involves ensuring that the weapon systems which provide the armed forces with the capacity and performance levels which correspond to their operational needs are produced at the best cost and within the best lead times. The DGA designs and produces the equipment destined for France's armed forces with the defence industry. The DGA's actions cover the entire lifetime of these programmes, from the preparation stage to operational use.
Once an armament programme has been completed, the DGA delivers the equipment to the armed forces: the navy, air force or army. See all types of equipment for each armed force.
