Counterterrorism

Update : 20/10/2010 11:14 am

The fight against terrorism is based on anticipation aiming to detect, assess and neutralize any threats that endangers national security.

Threat perception

To be efficient in fighting against terrorism it is essential to collect and process intelligence, in order to detect and identify the sources of the threats, to locate their structures, to understand their strategies and to define their possible targets.

In order to carry out this mission successfully, the DGSE relies on a unique and integrated capability that allows it to collect human, operational and technical intelligence, widening the spectrum of its access to information and therefore the quality of its analysis and threat assessment.

Fighting against such a vast and changing phenomenon as terrorism cannot be carried out alone. DGSE’s action is therefore, on one hand, complementary and coordinated with that of the other national Services involved in this issue, particularly under the authority of the Ministry of Interior, and on the other hand implemented through permanent exchanges with European and foreign partners.

Neutralizing the threat

The DGSE does not limit its action to a documentary and analytic observation of terrorism. In order to neutralize detected and identified threats, it cooperates with other national Services in charge of fighting terrorism, and if necessary, with foreign partners. All these exchanges can lead to detaining individuals, through shared intelligence and implemented joint capabilities, giving proof of their involvement in activities related to terrorism.
